
RIP Premnas: 1816-2021
A recent, expansive phylogenetic analysis of the damselfishes creates new genera and relegates others to the dustbin. One of the most notable changes: Premnas, the monotypic genus containing the charismatic Maroon Clownfish or Spinecheek Anemonefish, has finally fallen by the wayside. No longer shall we know our Maroon Clownfishes as Premnas biaculeatus; they are now, for the moment, all considered Amphiprion biaculeatus.

Unusual Hybrid Clownfish Arrives from Manila
Minnesota-based Northstar Aquatics receives a likely hybrid clownfish amongst a shipment of Maroons.

It pays to remember that the difference in pricing between a captive-bred Gold Nugget, Gold Flake, or Gold Stripe Maroon is simply one of supply and demand. Underneath the differences in appearance caused by possibly one mutant gene, they’re all the same easy-to-care-for fish.
