UF/IFAS TAL continues to advance aquaculture protocols for Melanurus Wrasse, Halichoeres melanurus. The latest success brings us one step closer to commercializing culture for this species.
Of special note, 2015 marked the first documented success with a butterflyfish, two wrasse species, and a surgeonfish— all of which represent groups of tremendous potential interest to the aquarium trade. We’ve published the full list of captive-bred species online this year, and all the new additions are listed here.
A Rising Tide Update documents the captive breeding of Halichoeres melanurus, aka. Hoeven’s or simply the Melanurus Wrasse, from spawn to post settlement.
The successful captive breeding and rearing of the Melanurus wrasse, Halichoeres melanurus, using only cultured prey items.
