abbreviation for “cultivated variety.” A term borrowed from botanists and plant breeders, now used to describe a variety of a species (i.e., coral) that is selected for desirable traits such as color, growth rate, or predisposition to flourish in captivity. Examples of full scientific names including a cultivar name are Goniopora cf. stutchburyi “ORA Red” and Goniopora sp. “ORA MIMF Green.”

    The chalice reminds me of a backdrop of a early grateful dead or jefferson airplane concert, with the oil projections going on the big screen behind them.So I call it The Filmore West Chalice.
