Green Bay Aquarium Society Fall Benefit Auction (WI)
October 29, 2017
The Green Bay Aquarium Society (GBAS) is proud to announce that this year’s fundraising event will support Pets In the Classroom, a grant program that provides funding to pre-K-9th grade teachers to purchase and maintain classroom pets. 100% of monies raised by auctioning certain designated auction lots will go towards this fund.
“This is such a great opportunity,” said John Moyles GBAS President. “We, as a club, feel that it is important to give back to the aquatic community both locally and on the national level. Pets in the Classroom is doing really great work getting kids involved with pets that they might not get to care for at home.”
Seller set up begins at 9:00 am and the bidding starts at 10:30 am. The event is free, open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be available on site. GBAS is a non-profit educational organization whose purpose is to further the study of all forms of aquatic life, to promote interest, exchange ideas, and distribute information concerning the aquarium hobby, and to encourage the display of aquatic life. The auction supports this purpose by providing an outlet for area hobbyists to re-home the fish and corals they have propagated and/or to find varieties of corals and other aquatic life not readily available at area stores. New and used equipment will also be available as well as door prizes and raffles.
GBAS maintains several public aquariums, including those at the Brown County Central Library. Club meetings are held each month at 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna. Pets in the Classroom (http://www.petsintheclassroom.org/) is an educational grant program that provides financial support to teachers to purchase and maintain small animals in the classroom. The program was established by the Pet Care Trust to provide children with an opportunity to interact with pets—an experience that can help to shape their lives for years to come.
