NOAA announced today it will afford Endangered Species Act protections to 20 coral species. All 20 species will be listed as threatened, none as endangered. Fifteen of the newly listed species occur in the Indo-Pacific and five in the Caribbean.
Full MACNA passes are sold out, but walk-ups are still welcome, with entries ranging from $40 (single day) to $90 (weekend) at the door, granting full access to speakers, workshops, exhibit hall and prize drawings.
These exceptionally slowly growing crabs, with a massive adult body, are among the most colorful animals found in the Northeastern Pacific. They live most of their life in deep water, but come up into the shallows to molt, and incidentally display their vivid freshly molted color.
