The name Sumer Tiwari should be familiar to readers of AMAZONAS as a somewhat routine contributor to our pages! But what many readers may not know is that Tiwari has made it a habit of creating something aquatic-related each year that he hopes will give something back to the freshwater world we all love. This year, Tiwari has just announced his first-ever Piscinarius Pin Set for 2022.

Tiwari explains, “As you all know, the freshwater bodies of the world and the fauna that inhabit those water bodies are very near and dear to my heart. To support the conservation of freshwater bodies of the world and the communities that depend on them, I’m trying to raise some funds.

“You can buy this pin set on my website: https://www.playsofrays.com/m/-/galleries/piscinarius-pins. 100% of the proceeds (including the amount I spent to make these pins) will be donated to International Rivers.”

The pin designs are a collaboration between Tiwari and artist McKenna Bendigo. Bendigo used Tiwari’s photographs of the five species as the direct inspiration for the charming recreation of each species. The 2022 set includes pins created from Tiwari’s most treasured fishes; his Imperial Zebra Plecos or L46 (Hypancistrus zebra), the Black Phantom Tetra (Hyphessobrycon megalopterus), the Rio Orinoco Altum Angelfish (Pterophyllum altum), the Blue Discus (Symphysodon aequafaciatus), and the Chameleon Whiptail (Pseudohemiodon apithanos).

Zebra Pleco, Altum Angel, Black Phantom Tetra, Chameleon Whiptail, and Blue Discus...all stunningly recreated and preserved in enamel pin form!

The 2022 Piscinarius Pin Set costs just $38.99….one cent less than a 1-year Print+Digital subscription to AMAZONAS Magazine here in the U.S.! Shipping adds just $4, and Streamlined Sparkles is only shipping these to U.S. addresses at this time. The set will ship with an included backing board worthy of any shadowbox to complete as a mounted display.

All the pins come mounted to the attached backing card, complimenting the pins should one choose to create a mounted display.

There is a limited number of pin sets available to ship in time for the holiday season, so don’t wait if you’re thinking of holiday gift-giving! Tiwari says that if there is strong enough demand, he can have more made for a future re-release in 2022.
