MYSTERY REEF ANIMAL: Can You ID This Invertebrate?

This marine invertebrate is currently living at A&M Aquatics in Lansing, Michigan. Its identity has baffled more than a few aquarists and biologists who have seen it. Image: Josh Spearow/A&M.

Know what this reef animal is? Its identity and the story behind it will be included in REEF VISIONS in the November/December 2021 Issue of CORAL.

Hints:

1] It is from the tropical Indo-Pacific.

2] It is currently about 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter.

3] It has a good appetite and has lived for several years in the Michigan facilities of the marine livestock wholesale and aquaculture company A&M Aquatics.
