New Aqua Effects LED Aquarium Strip Lights from Zoo Med: Sound Adds New Dimension to Aquarium Moods
Arriving at aquarium retailers this month, Zoo Med’s new Aqua Effects LED aquarium strip lights promise to create a rich experience aquarium’s inhabitants and watchers alike, with the unique addition of audio effects, like the sound of a thunderclap or the gentle crashing of waves, which coincide with and reinforce the “lighting effect” that you choose. These audio effects can be muted, and do not run when using timer modes.
Zoo Med is releasing two models in this new line of aquarium lighting, available in 18″, 24″, 36″, and 48″ configurations.
Aqua Effects Model 1
The Model 1 is dimmable, offering six different light intensities and a four-button on-board controller and speaker to customize the light and audio output of the fixture. The Model 1 utilizes a mixture of white and 460 nm blue LED emitters.
The Aqua Effects Model 1 offers five light & audio modes:
- Mode 1 – White & blue lights with lake wave sounds
- Mode 2 – White lights with jungle stream sounds
- Mode 3 – Blue lights with nighttime lake sounds
- Mode 4 – Subtle white & blue light, which fades to match waves with light rain and wave sounds.
- Mode 5 – Blue light with long white flashes to simulate a thunderstorm, with rain and lightning sounds
Aqua Effects Model 2
The Aqua Effects Model 2 offers an expanded range of modes and controllability over the Model 1. A wireless remote allows you to control the aquarium’s lighting and audio from anywhere in the room. It includes the capability of a built-in 24-hour timer and sunrise/sunset transitions.
In addition to other emitters, the Aqua Effects Model 2 also includes 390 nm true UVA, which enhances vision and natural behaviors in the aquarium.

- Dynamic Light & Audio Effects
- Wave effect

- Sunlight mode
- Moonlight mode
- Open water mode
- Plant light mode

This is not a good idea. Can you imagine the stress these flashing lights and sounds will cause to the fish? And before you say they are in nature…so is the stress they create. The aim of responsible aquarists should be to prevent and reduce stress, not add more. The fish will suffer and be less healthy.
