Apistogramma bitaeniata “Mamuri”

This fish stopped me in my tracks today; it is ample reason to dredge up the well-worn advice that you should never write off the off-color, dull, bland, juvenile fish you sometimes see in the trade.

Take good care of them and they will return the favor. And when you give a well-kept male Apistogramma a mirror, prepare to be wowed:
