LRS adds Fertility Frenzy to Frozen Food Lineup

Larry’s Reef Services, LLC, producers of the popular “LRS Reef Frenzy®” frozen aquarium food, is now venturing into the aquaculture realm with a new blend designed to aid marine fish breeding efforts. Recently announced at MACNA as LRS Fertility Frenzy™, it has been affectionately nicknamed the “Who’s your daddy blend™.”
Using the original Fish Frenzy® recipe as a starting point, LRS says it increased the nutrient content of the Fertility Frenzy™ blend by adding more diverse proteins as well as increasing beneficial DHA fats. Building on the success and feedback from previous breeding trials using LRS foods, four strains of probiotic bacteria were added to this recipe. Studies have shown that supplementing feeds with beneficial bacteria can result in increased juvenile growth and more robust larvae. In addition, Astaxanthin and pure beta-carotene supplements were added to enhance pigmentation. To round out the nutritional profile, a vitamin and mineral supplement is added.
LRS says that it adheres to a “fresher is better” approach when seeking ingredients for their blends, which results in less degraded nutrients due to freezing and thawing. Unlike all the other LRS blends, the Fertility Frenzy™ is a homogenized blend, meaning that it is ground to a finer texture and held together with a odorless, food-grade gelatin binder. This smaller texture food, gently bound together, permits a wider array of fish to be able to ingest the food. It also makes siphoning uneaten food out of a broodstock system easier, since it doesn’t broadcast feed and disperse into the water column.
