FishEye Smallmouth Grunts – New on the Captive-Bred List
24 Feb, 2014
The first ever commercially aquacultured Smallmouth Grunts (Haemulon chrysargyreum) are now available from FishEye Aquaculture!!!! They are well known for their brightly yellow striped bodies and their majestic schooling ability, as a matter of fact, everyone here at the hatchery just stares at their tanks in a daze, hundreds of schooling fish behaving like one giant organism, moving and shape-shifting in collective response to feeding and danger.
Small Mouth Grunts are peaceful when compared to other grunts, we do not notice the cannibalism or aggressive behavior that we have seen with French Grunts juveniles. They are voraciously accepting pellet and frozen feed. Small Mouth Grunts are shipped or delivered at two different sizes at 1.5″-2.75″ and 3″-4″ . These beautiful fish are available now, please contact us if interested and/or for more information. \
See below for additional photos furnished by FishEye Aquaculture that show the early larval development of this species.
